As a Hellhound he's charged with guarding the gates of Hell and contractually hunting down those who sell their souls to demons -- dragging them to Hell kicking and screaming if need be. And usually they are. As well as hunting down rogue demons who step out of line enough to attract much attention.
'Animal like' senses when it comes to scent; he can track anyone even with just an accidental whiff of their...anything really. He can also determine how much time a mortal has left if they have a contract out on their soul. His saliva has paralytic and hallucinogenic properties and depending how 'weak' an individual is; his presence can cause people to hallucinate. He is strong enough to wipe out entire werewolf packs and shifters -- even by his own hand with no assistance of others. His sight isn't as sharp as he would like -- corrective lenses could assist with that. But he deals much better with trusting his sense of smell.
01. Paul collects butterflies. While most of them are on display in his house -- he actually prefers to keep them for alive for the short amount of time they are can be. He has a bird cage designed for his butterflies. 02. Has a love for smoking cigarettes, despite having to listen to people drag on about how smoking will kill him. They won't. He finds the allure that humanity would create something so damaging to themselves and likes the taste. His preferred brand is Marlbolo Smooths (menthols). 03. It's not that he hates werewolves...he just doesn't find them the best to be around. But he will, generally, just ignore their existence all together. 04. Out of fascination, he has spent a long time creating "Paul" for the sake of living in the world. Certain facts, "family history", etc. Just so he could feel as though he would be more relateable to people who happen to cross his path. 05. Cannot stand 'stupid humor' comedies. He actually prefers dramas and mysteries to anything else -- mostly spending time trying to figure out "who did it" before the characters in the movie has. 06. Loves In-N-Out. He goes at least once a week and his week is off if he doesn't have the opportunity to go. 07. vessel 08. facts 09. go 10. here.
It is unknown to Paul of when he was first born.
As a creature of Hell, he has spent centuries guarding the gates of the Underworld and bringing back the souls of damned individuals who have made their compact with demons in exchange of riches, bringing back a loved one from death, etc. A fate worse than death for the most part. Hellhounds have a deep run with mythos all across the world. Essentially, they are guardians of the Underworld and, more often than not, symbols of death. Paul has been no different in his life of servitude for the most part. Spending years being sent topside occasionally to collect the souls of those that made pacts with Crossroad's Demons.
As a dutiful hellhound, "Paul" has taken to the topside easily. Mostly on duty, it wasn't until he found himself smitten with humanity as a whole through the cultivation of this love by Persephone that he has traveled to topside for different reasons other than soul collection.
While most of his interactions have been all but brief, it was the world that Paul fell in love with. Mostly nature -- it wasn't until the 1930s when he had fully attempted to get in with society. His human form got caught up in World War II, spending quite a bit of time watching as souls came and passed. Innocent blood split over hatred and ignorance, Paul found himself on one side of the war -- he was merely a spectator a majority of the time; a bleeding heart at other points in time.
He came to meet Isabella in this era, finding her fighting for control the very stem of what it meant to be human. Most of the time, Paul was entirely fascinated with her. Not so much her progeny. Isabella proved to grant him a love for humanity he hadn't had before with witnessing so much slaughter and death that they were capable of doing to themselves. While Isabella had been no saint, it was the struggle he was incited with rather than the carnage that was wrought.
Although it felt...very brief in his eyes, his time topside was brought to an end and he returned to the Underworld and the gates he guarded while awaiting for his time to return topside and explore the world just a little more. A gift that was granted by the current predicament with Heaven and Hell -- Paul has taken to using it to his advantage rather than being worried about the clear and present danger. He only benefits from the gates being shut -- returning topside not to collect souls but to merely become a spectator in what is happening to humanity.
